Murray Irwin “Moe” Norman

Murray Irwin “Moe” Norman (July 10, 1929 – September 4, 2004) was a Canadian professional golfer. His accuracy and ability to hit shot after shot perfectly straight gave him the nickname “Pipeline Moe”.

  • Inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 1995.

Paul Azinger described an afternoon on the driving range with Moe Norman: “He started ripping these drives right off the ground at the 250 yard marker and he never hit one more than 10 yards to either side of it, and he hit at least 50.  Before he’d hit irons he’d call how many times the ball would bounce – it was unbelievable”

Toronto 1969: “This is a lay up hole” Sam Snead warned Moe.  “You can’t clear the creek with a driver!” “Not trying to” Moe replied. “I’m playing for the bridge”.
